  1. FUNCTIONS OFATMOSPHERE BY: THOM ALFRED R. GERANCE

  2. FUNCTIONS It provides different gases that are essential for life. It provides water and dissociates many waste products. It transmits the radiation of the sun that is essential for photosynthesis. It shields the earth from ultraviolet and powerful cosmic rays.

  3. It also protects us from meteors that constantly shower down the earth. • Moderates the temperature of the earth. • It determines weather and climate and is important for rain formation, clouds and wind. • Protects from rapid cooling and heating at night and day. • It essential for communication.

  4. It provides different gases that are essential for life. Without the carbon dioxide and oxygen present in the air, life would not be possible. • Oxygen - Has a higher electronegativity.

  5. It provides water and dissociates many waste products. One of the components of the atmosphere is water vapor. Water is known as a good solvent so it dissolves some of the waste materials in the air. Water - Is known as the Universal Solvent. It has the ability to dissolve or dissociate most compounds than the other liquid, it is possible because of its polarity.

  6. It shields the earth from ultraviolet and powerful cosmic rays. It is possible because of the Ozone layer found in Stratosphere that serve as a shield to protect the earth from the ultraviolet rays of the sun.

  7. It also protects us from meteors that constantly shower down the earth. • The mesosphere is the responsible of the meteor and in this layer, it can protect the earth.

  8. It essential for communication. • It is possible because of the ionosphere which is very thin and responsible for absorbing the most energetic photons from the sun and for reflecting radio waves, thereby making long-distance radio communication possible.

  9. ACTIVITY 1.) Which of the following statements is not a function of the atmosphere? a.) It provides different gases essential for life b.) It provides water that dissociates many waste products c.) It prevents the process of photosynthesis d.) It moderates the temperature of the earth 2.) The atmosphere provides ________ that dissociates many waste products. a.) water b.) gas c.) cosmic rays d.) Water vapor 3.) ____________ is essential for communication. a.) Sun b.) Atoms c.) Atmosphere d.) Radiation from the sun
