  7. What made London 1908 so special? It was the first Olympics that adopted the phrase “the most important thing in the Olympic Games is not to win but to take part” It was the first Olympics that saw flags being paraded in the arena – the foundations of the opening ceremony American John Taylor was the first African American to win an Olympic gold medal Italian marathon runner DorandoPietri won the race but was disqualified when he received help from marshals when he collapsed.

  8. What made London 1948 so special? It was the first Olympic Games to take place after the war. For that reason the Games were known as “The Austerity Games”, because of rationing. It was the first televised Olympics, although not live. (The first live Olympic coverage was from Rome in 1960, and first in colour in Mexico, 1968.) The star was Holland’s Fanny Blankers-Koen, who won 4 gold medals at the games. Because of their part played in WWII, Germany and Japan were not invited to participate.

  11. Creating a profile about your country: Le Royaume-Uni se trouve en Europe.
