  1. The Student Experience • Log in to SRI College & Career. • Choose up to three book interests. • Take a practice test. • Take the SRI test. • View a personal reading list.

  2. Log in to SRI • Enter your Username: • Enter your password:

  3. Choose Book Interests(This does not determine what types of questions you will have during the SRI test)

  4. Take a Practice Test • If you race through these questions, the test will KNOW! • Ask for help if you don’t understand the directions to the test.

  5. SRI is an inference-based test. This means: You must read all the answers and the entire passage before clicking on an answer. The answer cannot be found directly in the passage—you must use the clues in the passage to determine an answer. You will most likely need to reread the passage to determine the correct answer before clicking on “NEXT.”

  6. Now, take the SRI Test!

  7. When taking the SRI test…. • Try your best! • Don’t rush! Take a mental break if needed! • Adjust your font size of you need to zoom. • Use your skips if you are unsure! (You have three of them and skipping does NOT affect your score.)

  8. Your Score: • Your score is reported as a Lexile number. • It will pop up at the end of your test. • Your Lexile score indicates a range of appropriate reading materials that are just right for you--100 points below and 50 points above your Lexile score. • For example, if your Lexile score is 400, your range would be 300-450.

  9. Recommended Reading

  10. Choosing a Book • Using your SRI score, choose a book with a lexile that falls in the range of 100 below to 50 above your score • Go to www.lexile.com if you need to look up the lexile of a book or ask your teacher to use the Book Expert in SAM

  12. Lexile Scores for Jobs • Look at this next slide to see why reading is so important! • You will see the Lexile requirements for different types of jobs. • Keep in mind, the Lexile of the CA driver’s test is 1,000!!

  14. Testing Environment • If you have any trouble logging in to the program, your teacher will help you. Do not ask a friend or neighbor. Once your classmate starts, it could interrupt their thinking.

  15. Testing Environment • Your teacher will be walking around monitoring the class to answer any questions you may have. • Whisper voices will be used so others are not interrupted. • Your teacher will not be able to help you answer a question, but they can clarify directions for you.

  16. Testing Environment • A quiet testing environment is VERY important! When you are finished, do not move around, play computer games, or talk. You must quietly read your book when you finish the test. • You only take the SRI 3-4 times a year. Take it very seriously so your results show your true abilities.
