  1. Laboratory Safety in the Biological Classroom Cedar Creek High School Science Department Room 318/322

  2. Safety Rules • Always obtain teacher’s permission before conducting an experiment. • Study the procedure. If you have questions, ask your teacher. Be sure you understand any safety symbols shown on the page.

  3. Use the safety equipment provided for you. Goggles and aprons must be worn at all times when using chemicals.

  4. Always slant test tubes away from yourself and others while heating. Correct!! Wrong!!

  5. Never eat or drink in the lab, and never use glassware as food or drink.

  6. NO Silly STRAWS !! • Never inhale chemicals. Do not taste any substance or draw any material into a tube with your mouth NO!!! Yes, always WAFT!!

  7. If you splash a chemical on your skin, ALWAYS wash it off immediately with water. Notify me as soon as possible. • If you spill a chemical on the lab bench, Always dilute the spill with Water.

  8. Note the locations of the following items: Not in yet Do not need, we have showers in each science room. Not in yet.

  9. Locations con’t.. In the cabinet along the wall the door is on, next to shower.

  10. Keep all materials away from an open flames. Tie back long hair and refrain from wearing loose clothing.

  11. If a fire should break out in the classroom, or if your clothing should catch on fire, notify the instructor immediately.

  12. Things you need to do if the previous happens….

  13. If all else fails…

  14. There will be absolutely no horseplay.

  15. Report any accident or injury, no matter how small, to your teacher.

  16. Always speak softly when in lab, otherwise you or your lab partner may miss important instructions. • Do not wear your best clothes on lab day, they may get ruined! • Two words…. Common Sense!!
