Schedules • Must be followed daily and posted in the classroom • Are important to help children/staff learn routines • Shows we are doing what we say • Are required to meet seat time for content area instruction • Provides foundation of real life expectations • Provides order and promotes success • Helps students who have difficulty transitioning

  5. Reading Initiative • Rivermont Schools is globally working to develop there own district. They are starting by focusing on developing a Reading/Writing Curriculum with this year focusing on a Literacy Initiative. • Professional Development will be geared toward improving evidence-vased reading strategies. • All teachers will take the self-paced online Reading Rockets, Reading 101: A Guide to Teaching Reading and Writing to strengthen skills in teaching reading and writing. (Nine course modules that include in-depth information, classroom strategies, assignments, and additional resources on the building blocks of teaching reading and writing.) • http://www.readingrockets.org/teaching/reading101-course/modules/course-modules • Teachers to create portfolio of pre & post-tests to document completion • DUE DATE to be Complete: 12/31/18

Reading Initiative • Monthly Book Study discussions from “ From Striving to Thriving: how to grow competent capable readers” • Ms. Walters attended a conference on Balanced Literacy and she will present on information learned to the team. • Ms. Scott and Ms. Tiffany attended a training on Write On, Write Now and will be working together to present information to the team.

  7. NEW – BLOCK 3 • The goal of the Reading Initiative is to show one year’s growth in grades 4-11. This will be measured by the STAR Reading Assessment which is in the process of being purchased for all Rivermont Schools. • Remediation Block has been replaced with specific areas of focus: Reading Strategies, Failure Free Reading, Careers & You, Learning Strategies, and Elective focus. • Reading Strategies & Failure Free Reading – will focus on improving students who are reading below grade level and working with the students to develop specific skills to increase those areas of need (i.e. reading comprehension, vocabulary, reading fluency, etc.) • Learning Strategies – will focus on working on other areas of need specific to a students’ IEP whether math instruction, behavior goals, etc.

CTE & Career Coach • To meet the VDOE guidelines, Rivermont has created two new positions that will help facility the CTE program and services. • Career Instructor – is an individual that is specialized in a certain area with CTE credentials • Career Coach - Coordinating with teachers and working with students on implementation of elementary, middle and high school CTE requirements. • The overall goals are to administer Career assessments with the goal of every student creating a career portfolio to present at IEP meeting for age 14 and beyond, promote evidence based transition practices, and promote/create a Profile based on the Virginia Graduate requirements • ALL students will be creating a Career portfolio based on VDOE requirements • The resources from the Virginia Career View (training at Orientation) are downloaded and accessible on the N:Drive

Electives • High School students were provided a choice for the 2018-2019 School Year • 9th & 10th graders will choice one elective and must take Health/P.E. • 11th and 12th graders will choose two electives. • All courses are on Odysseyware and fulfill the CTE requirement as well as graduation requirements like CPR & First Aid. • Since the courses are online, teachers will be provided or assigned computers to conduct the courses as well as provide direct instruction based on the assignments/projects you assign.

  10. Health/PE & Social Skills • Time determined on schedule: Elementary & Middle I not to mix with other groups. Stick to the TIME – Share with MHAs in charge of Health/PE • Goal is to have one MHA to run and plan the P.E. lessons for all students from Elem, MS, and HS. • Lessons and activities to include completed lesson plans are to be completed and taught by the MHAs of the classroom. Get a Plan! Copy and paste that information into PLANBOOK. • Communicate with your classroom staff to ensure that there are activities and lessons to engage. This helps to reduced down time which helps to reduce behavior!– Have the conversation!

Specials • According to the Virginia Department of Education, Elementary students, K-5, must participate in special instruction to include art, computers, and music, and a focus in career exploration. • This will occur during the Social Skill block. • The goal is to enrich the child's education through visual arts that utilize the standards in the various subject areas while building the foundation of communication and process development.

Monthlies, Mid-Years, End-of-Years • Monthlies • Required • This is how we get paid for our students from the various districts • Due on the 3rd Thursday of the month for review • Saved, printed, and signed final version due to Lolita on the first of the following month • Sample on the N:Drive in Teacher Folder or on your provided flash drive • Mid-Years & End of Years • Required • Mid-Years due for review on 1/17/2019; EOY on 6/07/19. • Final Mid-Years due to Mrs. Heather on 1/31/2019; EOY on 6/16/19. • Saved, printed, and final version due to Lolita on 2/01/2019; EOY on 6/21/19. • Sample on the N:Drive in Teacher Folder or on your provided flash drive * Electronic samples of each document located on N:Drive

FAPT Reports • Required (electronic sample located on N:Drive – use template to have heading) • Due to review 5 days prior to date of meeting (to include points/levels graph and behavior graphs). WE are working with districts to get advance notice of meeting. Be prepared for POP-UP! • Make sure the document is complete with up-to-date data, attendance, and to include points/levels graph and behavior graphs. • Saved, printed (10 copies) and signed documents for FAPT meetings due to Mrs. Heather 2 days prior to the meeting or once corrected and approved. • NEW Guidelines – Must document serious incidents as well as any communication on the student - - See sample

Lesson & Unit Plans • Required – www.planbook.com • Must be posted to the program on the Friday before they will be used. • Must be available in your room during instruction. • Recommend completing two-weeks at a time. • Electronic documents on HOW TO available on N:Drive. • Pacing guides located on the Rivermont Team Page • And on the folder labeled “Pacing Guides” on 2018-19 N:Drive You may scan and upload P.E. and Social Skills plans.

How to access the TEAM PAGE • Only able to access while at work on CENTRA computers – not accessible on laptops at home • Begin by starting on Centra People. • Go to the drop down and select other team pages. Scroll down to Rivermont schools. • Suggest adding as favorite on web browser for quick access

IEP’s and Triennials • Mandatory • Word document drafts are due to Mrs. Heather or Mrs. Martin 30 days prior to due date • Draft due to district liaison with 2 weeks or more prior to IEP due date/meeting depending on the district • Case managers responsible for keeping up with due dates • Reminders will be provided; however, manage YOUR students cases.

IEP’s and Triennials • Templates for each district will be located in the TEACHER Folder on the N:Drive (Norfolk, Portsmouth, Virginia Beach, Northampton, Hampton) • Chesapeake – SYNERGY - https://synergy.cpschools.com/- works best on Internet Explorer • Suffolk – Heather Keller will reach out to the specific teacher and request items needed for the IEP/Triennials as well as IEP Updates – CHECK EMAIL

IEP’s and Triennials • Include results of Brigance testing, current grades, SOL/VAAP scores, Student Growth Assessments, and Easy CBM • If over 13, must have transition plan and goals – Virginia Career View plus 2 other transition assessments {see N:Drive – document labeled Assessment Charts} • Important to document POSITIVE along with areas of concern – USE THE RIGHT SECTION • Refer to data collection of goals for the various objectives • Students need to be making progress on their goals if not we need to hold an IEP meeting to address realistic achievement of the goal

IEP Updates • Template for various districts on the N:Drive in the TEACHER Folder • You will need to type the complete goal and input the student information at the top of each sheet. • If using IEP updates from last year, please make sure that the goals match the NEW IEP. Old goals are removed as well as last year data. • Refer to 12 week calendar or the calendar in the staff copy room to see when IEP updates are due – but reporting occurs every 4 ½ weeks along with progress and report cards • PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE – data changes every 4 ½ weeks so should your updates. You must use the appropriate code and YOU MUST comment regarding the data. NO, this is not acceptable : 80% or 3 times.

  26. GRADING • Note: This is the minimum requirement per subject. This is not to say that you will not give practice activities regularly. Make up work is due within 5 days of absence. Students should have 5 calendar notice of a quiz and “pop quizzes” can be given but should not count as a grade. • A copy of the GRADING SCALE will be provided

Classroom Decorations/Expectations • Research states that a “student feels welcomed and invited to learn when the environment is engaging and their name is displayed in three different locations throughout the classroom especially the door”. • SOL’s, Daily Schedule, and Classroom rules need to be posted • Course specific posters on the wall • An area to display student work • Find a theme – bring it all together

  33. Decorating Bulletin Boards • Bulletin boards should be changed every quarter (4 times total). • Should be tasteful and inviting. • Grammar should be accurate. • Colorful – be aware of what your neighbors are doing and match/coordinate with the season

REMINDERS • Attendance MUST BE taken daily – editable template on N:Drive – great resource for Monthly Reports – Attendance will be taken using PowerSchools – lunch counts taken on • Participation in PLC Meetings are a MUST!!! • Grades in Power Teacher must be updated and entered weekly – this will be checked – MHA one assigned per classroom must enter SS and Health/PE • Field Trips – Student contact sheets must be taken with you as well as kept in classroom • Contact parents weekly – PLEASE call and document – doesn’t always have to be when there is a problem (use this time to get information for FAPT Reports and update Coordination Meetings on Monthlies also) • HOMEWORK – GIVE it because students and parents love it! • Copy of student IEPs must be kept in the classroom, overall schedule posted, SOLs posted, and copy of printed lesson plans must be available
