  2. Objectives • To discuss DDI 3 use cases • To write papers based on them • To move the DDI effort forward

Paper 1 • Author – Larry Hoyle, University of Kansas • Title – Extracting DDI 3 Metadata from Statistical Packages • Discussion • Created table of all statistical packages and their common elements with DDI 3 • Will be useful in sharing with StatTransfer, which now has an export to Triple-S • Hope to get StatTransfer interested in DDI 3

  4. Paper 2 • Author– Mari Kleemola, Finnish Data Archive • Title – Archive Perspective on DDI 3 • Discussion • How should archives approach DDI 3? • How should the ISSP participating countries mark up and structure their country-specific data in DDI 3?

  5. Paper 3 • Author – Oliver Hopt, GESIS • Title – Managing Questionnaire in DDI 3: The QDDS Use Case • Discussion • First version of QDDS uses DDI 2 • DDI 3 can add a lot of functionality, especially in terms of versioning changes in questionnaires • QDDS plans a move to DDI 3 very soon

  6. Paper 4 • Author – Ornulf Risnes, Norwegian Social Science Data Archive • Title – The ESS Use Case • Discussion • ESS needs to develop data packages for country and wave files and harmonize them • How can we best do this in DDI 3 and provide easy access to all types of files?

  7. Paper 5 • Author – Sanda Ionescu, ICPSR • Title – Comparison in DDI 3 • Discussion • How can we use DDI 3 to mark up files to prepare for and implement harmonization? • Which specific elements should be used? • Are there elements missing?

  8. Paper 6 • Author – Uwe Jensen, GESIS • Title – Grouping Data Series in DDI 3 • Discussion • How do we leverage the grouping structure for ongoing data series? • Which pieces of information go where? • What is the right structure of grouping for the large data series, using ISSP as an example?

  9. Paper 7 • Author – Alerk Amin, University of Tilburg • Title – Questasy and DDI 3 • Discussion • Questasy is a collection of Web surveys in multiple languages • Questasy provides access to SPSS and Stata files • System generates DDI 3

Paper 8 • Author – Bryan Fitzpatrick, consultant to Australian Bureau of Statistics • Title – Mapping SDMX to DDI 3 • Discussion • Both complex standards but the national statistical agencies need this product • As SDMX is an exchange standard for aggregate time series, it can map to nCubes in DDI

  11. Paper 9 • Authors – Jannik Jensen and Dan Kristiansen, Danish Data Archive • Title – DDI 3 Editor and API • Discussion • The DDA has envisioned a new data flow with DDI 3 editor integrating information from various sources • Editor tool based on layered architecture so that others can use

  13. What Happens Next? • Papers undergo editing, to be completed by the end of the year • Will be published as part of the DDI Alliance Working Paper Series on the DDI site • May also form the basis for an edition of the IASSIST Quarterly
