Understanding the Message General Points • Take Direction from your Mission • The Off-Campus Living Office's mission is to coordinate services, education, events, and resources for off-campus living. • Education and Outreach themes in many Student Affairs Areas • Video Media, properly presented, can assist in fulfilling this need.

Creating a Storyline • Decide on a Topic • What is Most Important? • What is Suited to this type of Presentation? • Create a Pitch • What draws a student into the topic? • Is it a Newscast, PSA, something else? • Find the Participants • Identify your “Cast” • Organize the Team: production, editing, dispersal • Story Board the Idea

  5. Making a Video We know what we want, but how do we actually make a video? It’s Easier Than You Might Think!

Equipment • Video Camera-$150 and up • Editing Program-final Cut Pro, Final Cut Express • Educational Discounts through APPLE • Windows Movie Maker-comes on PCs • Tripod-Some cameras come with tripods, $40 and up • Fire wire, USB connectors, to connect video camera to computer, some digital cameras allow you to edit on the camera as well-$20 and up

  7. Resources on Campus • Journalism/Communication Department • Students are eager to gain experience • Internships? • Other People who might be interested • Public Relations • Drama  • Telecommunications - Video Production Majors • Other offices that may have AV equipment
