  2. What You Need to Know? • You’ve been asked to be on a panel to score Most Valuable Student applications. What do you need to know? • You’ll need to make judgments about each applicant, and assign ratings. • You’ll need to evaluate the applicant in terms of the opportunities afforded to them. • Most important, have fun!   3. Point Distribution Section 1. Scholarship = 500 points Section 2. Leadership = 400 points Section 3. Financial Need = 100 points Total 1,000 points Elks National Foundation Helping Elks Build Stronger Communities

  4. Rating System • 5- Outstanding • 4- Excellent • 3-Strong • 2-Average • 1-Below Average • 0-Weak For many of the sections, you will rate the applicant on a scale of 0 to 5. Use these guidelines. Elks National Foundation Helping Elks Build Stronger Communities

  5. Section 1. Scholarship • Part 1, Test Scores. Test scores are worth 250 points, based on a table. • Part 2, Academic Achievement. Review the student’s transcript and academic qualities, and assign a rating on a scale of 0 to 5. Multiply your rating by 50, for a maximum total of 250 points. • Scholarship Section = 500 Total Points Elks National Foundation Helping Elks Build Stronger Communities

  6. Section 2. Leadership • Leadership Section = 400 Points • Part A, Work Experience. 50 Points. • Rate the applicant’s work experience on a scale of 0 to 5. Multiply your rating by 10, for a maximum total of 50 points. Elks National Foundation Helping Elks Build Stronger Communities

  7. Section 2. Leadership • Part B, Community Service. 100 Points. • Rate the applicant’s community service on a scale of 0 to 5. Multiply your rating by 20, for a maximum total of 100 points. Elks National Foundation Helping Elks Build Stronger Communities

  8. Section 2. Leadership • Part C, Honors and Awards. 50 Points. • Rate the applicant’s awards and achievements on a scale of 0 to 5. Multiply your rating by 10 for a maximum total of 50 points. Elks National Foundation Helping Elks Build Stronger Communities

  9. Section 2. Leadership • Part D, Leadership. 75 Points. • Rate the applicant’s leadership ability on a scale of 0 to 5. Multiply your rating by 15 for a maximum total of 75 points. Elks National Foundation Helping Elks Build Stronger Communities
