  3. What is Islam? • It is more than a religion… It is a way of life • It began over 1400 years ago • “Islam” means total surrender to God • Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) is the last messenger of God - Qur’an was revealed to him • Worship only Allah as God

  4. Beliefs • Believing in Almighty God (Allah) • Believing in His angels • Believing in His scriptures • Believing in His messengers • Believing in the day of judgment • Believing in the divine destiny

  5. The True believers are those who: • Trust God always and enjoy unshakeable confidence in Him. • Observe their daily and weekly prayers regularly. • Spend in the way of God of what He has given them in the form of wealth, life, health, knowledge and so on. • Enjoin the right and good, and combat the wrong and evil by all lawful means at their disposal. • Love their near and distant neighbors and show genuine kindness to their guests, especially the strangers. • Say the truth and engage in good talk or else abstain.

  12. 3. Sawm • Refraining from food, drink, and any sexual activities whilst fasting • Fast during Ramadan from before sunrise to sunset Pregnant women, the ill, the elderly, children under the age of puberty, and travelers are not obligated to fast
