  2. 1929 • Anne Frank is born to Otto and Edith Frank

  3. 1933 • In March, the Franks move to the Netherlands • Otto opens a business • The kids go to school • They feel safe and happy

  4. 1940 • May 10th, Germany invades the Netherlands • As a Jew, Otto can no longer own a business

  5. 1942 • All Jews had to wear a Star of David • Anne gets the diary for her 13th birthday and begins writing • Anne’s sister Margot gets a work order • The Franks go into hiding

  6. 8 people go into hiding • Otto Frank • Edith Frank

  7. Anne Frank • Margot Frank

  8. Hermann van Pels, Otto Frank’s business partner • His wife Auguste van Pels • Their son Peter van Pels

  9. Fritz Pfeffer, the dentist. His fiancee did not go into hiding since she wasn’t Jewish.

  10. 1944 • August 4, they are discovered and arrested. • Their helpers are thrown in prison.

  11. 1944 • August 8, all 8 people who were in hiding are sent on a train toWesterbrok Transit Camp

  12. September 1944 • Herman van Pels is gassed at Auschwitz since he can’t do hard labor.

  13. October 1944 • Fritz Pfeffer is moved to Neuengamme concentration camp. He dies on Dec. 20th due to illness.

  14. January 1945 • Edith Frank watches her children leave Auschwitz, becomes ill, and dies.

  15. March 1945 • Margot Frank dies in Bergen-Belsen concentration camp from typhus.

  16. March 1945 • Anne Frank dies in Bergen-Belsen of typhus shortly after Margot. • Just 3 weeks later, the British liberate the camp.

  17. May 5, 1945 • Peter van Pels dies of exhaustion in Mauthausen concentration camp in Austria.

  18. April 9 to May 8, 1945 • Auguste van Pels dies in Germany or Czechoslovakia during this time.

  19. Otto Frank is the only survivor • He returns to Amsterdam

  20. Otto Frank with the helpers who also survived the war

  21. June 25, 1947 • Otto Frank publishes Anne’s diary: • “If she were here, Anne would be so proud.”
