  11. Key Features of the ACORN Node • Comprised of Three HEDA Cores Administrative Ethics/ Human Subjects Epidemiological/Biostatistics

  12. Key Features of the ACORN Node • HEDA Cores Administrative • Overall nodal organizational responsibility • Oversee generation of nodal research priority list • Oversee the conduct of nodal research • Oversee intranodal, internodal communications • Build partnerships with the MCHB/EMSC

Key Features of the ACORN Node • HEDA Cores Ethics / Human Subjects • Insure the protection of human subjects • Review ethical content of all nodal research by committee • Advise nodal investigators regarding all ethical issues pertaining to nodal research prior to submission to PECARN • Review IRB issues at nodal HEDAs and help coordinate activities which require cooperation between IRBs

Key Features of the ACORN Node • HEDA Cores Epidemiology / Biostatistics • Review nodal research proposals and provide specific feedback to investigators on issues of study design, sources of bias and confounding, sample size and power, logistics and feasibility • Assist in the development of surveys and other data collection instruments • Assist with statistical analysis of completed nodal research, including multivariable statistical models and techniques for validation • Assist with preparation of research presentations and manuscripts

  17. Concluding Statement The ACORN Node of PECARN is committed to applying our strengths and expertise to the study of the prevention and treatment of acutely ill and injured children. We will forge strong collaborations with all other Nodes of PECARN and the MCHB/EMSC. We are confident that the strong commitment of all the Nodes of PECARN will insure the success of this novel and exciting network.
