  3. Who is involved? • The AE partnership includes: • consumers • advocacy groups • nurses, direct care workers, other health care professionals • regulators • nursing homes Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes January 2009

What does AE do? • Sets forth goals nursing homes can choose to work on • Provides support for nursing homes to reach their goals • Provides a way for nursing homes to measure their progress • Works to strengthen the direct care workforce Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes January 2009

  5. Goals of AE • Clinical (caregiving) goals: • Reducing occurrence of pressure ulcers • Reducing the use of restraints • Improving pain management • for short-term • for long-term stay residents Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes January 2009

Goals of AE (continued) • Organizational (staff) goals: • Establish targets and strategies for quality improvements • Assess resident and family satisfaction • Increase staff retention • Increase consistent assignment so residents receive care from the same caregivers Advancing Excellence in America’s Nursing Homes January 2009

What you should know about AE • Never before has such a broad group of people come together to work on nursing home excellence. • Approximately 45 percent of US nursing homes have joined the AE campaign. • Other nursing homes may choose a different path toward excellence. How you can become involved? • Ask if your facility participates in the AE campaign. • If so, ask how you can be involved. • If not, suggest that your facility join. • All CNAs can learn about the goals of AE. • All CNAs can seek ways to improve the quality of care provided at the bedside.
