  1. Status report SOLEIL September 2006

  2. Accelerator status • Storage ring is now operational • First turns done on the 14th of May 2006 • First beam stored the 1st of June 2006 • 8.35 mA during 10 minutes • 4 weeks of continuous operation 24H/24H in June and July 2006 • Up to 117 mA

  3. Accelerator status • Still to be done : • New stuff to install and test • Insertions devices • New diagnostics • Slow and fast orbit feedbacks • Top up operation • Heavy work to be scheduled • On the cold water fluilds distribution network (for magnet cooling system) • 10 weeks of Storage Ring operation are scheduled before end of 2006 • Part of the time will be dedicated for beamlines commissioning • Leaving the construction phase • Entering slowly the operation phase

  4. Beamlines status • First beam on 2 beamlines is scheduled next week • DIFFABS: Diffraction and absorption beamline • With last generation 6 circles Kappa diffractometer • TEMPO : Time resolved Experiments on Materials with PhOtoelectron spectroscopy • With SCIENTA detector • 6 others beamlines should get beam before end of 2006 • Entering the commissioning phase

  5. Control status

  6. Control and Acquisition Electronics: current status on accelerators • In operation : • More than 100 PLC in operation • 15 Control Systems • 60 CompactCPI crates • More that 3000 cables connected to Control units • The timing system: • Installed in less than one year between the call for tender and deployment • A master system distributes software messages to about 20 local CPCI boards which generate clocks and pulses to equipments

  7. Network & Computers infrastructure is ready for exploitation phase • The Ethernet network is now fully operational • 1 main node • 21 secondary nodes distributed around the Machine • Up to 900 ethernet connections are cabled and operational • Wifi network will be installed this summer (used only during shutdown periods) • About 40 linux rack mounted servers are operational and provide: • Required network services (DNS, DHCP, LDAP, NTP, ..) • Tango Services (configuration, archiving, etc ..) • Support for GlobalSCREEN Applications • Support for high level Tango DeviceServers (calculations, etc ..) • A filerprovides1 Terabyte of storage space • its backup solution is also operational • About 30 operator stations are operational TX

  8. Status of the Control System The DeviceServers

  9. TANGO Device Server status (in june !!) Insertion devices, new Diags, BL Front ends, RF complements Insertion devices, new Diags

  10. Today on accelerators

  11. On beamlines • DIFFABS • TEMPO • First Device deployment scheduled on Friday !!

  12. Status of the Control System The Supervision layer

  13. Storage ring Vacuum system Power supplies Machine Interlocks RF system Diagnostics BL Front end ID control (to come) Present state for supervision applications More than 10 GlobalSCREEN applications in full operation • PSS • TL1 • Booster • General application • RF • TL2

  14. Booster RF GlobalSCREEN Application

  15. SR Power Supply GlobalSCREEN Application

  16. 4 Labview Applications : Tune measurement, MRSV, Pinhole • Tune measurement • H plane • Vplane • Sources • Spectrum analyser • Turn By turn signal • Output • Publish into TANGO • Tune meas. device • Excitation • Shaker magnet • striplines H-tune V-tune H-tune Zoom V-tune Zoom Auto-tracking

  17. Other applications • Archiving and Setpoint management • MAMBO java application for HDB and TDB systems • Bensikin application • Machine Status • Heavy use of Tango Generic applications • (ATKPanel, DeviceTree, ATKTrend, etc ..)

  18. On beamlines • DIFFABS • First version of GlobalScreen application in operation • First acquisition process sequences done by scientists with the PASSERELLE software

  19. Project Management facts • We are leaving the pic load period • Software : • 10 people in the software group with 6 additional subcontractors are • Hardware : About 12 people are working on the electronics installation • A constant job is to follow up priorities and requirements from our internal customers • Sources • Experiments • A list of DeviceServers has been setup with associate dates for delivery • For Machine • And the first 10 beamlines • A subcontractor is working fulltime with us on this matter

  20. Status of the Control System Conclusion

  21. Some Successful outcomes to date • Software integration of all subsystems of the storage ring has been done within less than 2 weeks • Software has (till now !!) never delayed Machine tests • Tango Devices provide also high level services (level 2 and 3 device servers) • up to calculations applications (like tune measurement), process management, state and attribute composers, equipment monitoring, etc .. • and is not limited to simple I/O distribution on the network .. • Software quality is satisfactory thanks to good software engineering practices • Versioning management (also adopted by Source division for GlobalSCREEN applications) • Large internal and external use of a Bug tracker system • Continuously updated Report Boards • About 4 calls during the nights during the first 4 weeks of operation

  22. Next steps • Installation of Full TANGO Control systems on SOLEIL Beamlines • Transition to exploitation for the Accelerators
