  2. Competitive Foods • Foods sold in competition with reimbursable meals • Includes a la carte sold by Food Services

  3. Competitive Foods • The sale of competitive foods ok if: • Income accrues to: • nonprofit school food service • school or student organization • Board approval/ school district policy on file

  4. Foods of Minimal Nutritional Value • Four classes of foods: • Soda Water/Carbonated Beverages • Water Ices • Chewing Gum • Certain Candies • USDA exemptions list http://www.ode.state.or.us/search/page/?id=2004

  5. Oregon School Nutrition Standards • Oregon Law 336.423 limits the sale of foods and beverages sold outside of NSLP & SBP. • Limits include: • Serving size • Calories per serving • Fat, Saturated Fat, and Trans Fat • Sugar content by weight

  6. Wellness Policy Update • New requirements: • Nutrition promotion goals • Evaluation component • Inform and update the public • PE teachers & school health professionals now included on wellness committee • Person(s) to ensure compliance
