UMUC – DETC 630 – Fall 2010 – Group 3 Helen Barrett Identified the Following Purposes: • Learning (Formative) Portfolios, which usually occurs on an ongoing basis supporting professional development; • Assessment (Summative) Portfolios, which usually occurs within the context of a formal evaluation process; • Employment (Marketing) Portfolios, which are used for seeking employment (Hartnell-Young & Morriss, 1999; Wolf, 1999).
