What Causes Athletes Foot • Athlete’s foot is an infection of the feet caused by a fungus (tineapedis and tineacorporis). • Athlete’s foot is caused by a fungus that lives on the outer layer of the skin and nails. • Wet feet for long periods causes the fungus to grow. • It can also be transmitted in public showers

  4. Symptoms • Crack flaking peeling skin between toes • Red and itching feet • Burning sting pain in the feet • Blusters that ooze or get crusty

  5. Treatment • Anti-fungal creams or powders • Miconazole • Clotrimazole • Terbinafine • Tolnaftate

  6. Prevention • Avoid tight shoes • Avoid plastic shoes • Avoid socks that retain moisture • Wear sandals in public showers • Don’t share towels or bath mats with people who are infected • Keep feet clean and dry
