  11. The following power point was created by Student Council and the 5th Grade Kid Leaders:

  12. Energy What’s Going on in Our School?

  13. Who is Mr. Blair • He is an energy specialist • He is in charge of monitoring the energy bills of the school district • He comes to each school 2-3 times a week to make sure we are not wasting energy • He sends an e-mail to all the teachers every Friday to remind them to conserve energy at school as well as at home • He speaks to new teachers about conserving energy and gives a presentation at the beginning of each school year

  14. What We’ve Done • The energy saving program began in 2010 • PRMS saved $80,000 last summer by using 40% less energy, • Since November of 2010, the district has saved, $700,000 in only 2½ years • With the money saved, new flooring was installed at Sharon School • The money also goes to student programs

  15. Problems to Fix • 25% of the energy used in this country is wasted • When you’re done using a computer, turn off the monitor • Turn off the lights when you leave the room • When it’s hot out, close the blinds so the sun doesn’t hit the floor and heat the room • Open the blinds and use natural light; it’s calming when the lights are off • Remind adults to turn thermostat off when you leave a room • Un-plug appliances that are not being used

  16. Ideas for Future • We want more student involvement with our goal to become a more energy efficient school • Eventually, we hope the whole country is more aware of their energy use • Have energy awareness assemblies • Get teachers to turn off their lights for “An Hour Without Power”
