  2. Appointment 1 • Patient seems small. He is discouraged and hopeless. • Telemachos believes that his father, Odysseus, is dead. • Feeling lost without a father figure • He has also been feeling agitated toward the destructive suitors in the house. • “The birds of prey have made him their prey; he is gone from sight, gone from hearing, and left anguish and lamentation for me” (9).

  3. Appointment 2 Telemachos is low and upset. He fears that his mother will never pick a suitor and the suitors will never leave. “She hates the thought of it, but she neither denies nor dares to make an end of the matter, while they eat me out of house and home” (9).

  4. Appointment 3 • Patient has turned into a different person! • He walks with courage and confidence. • Telemachos believes that a god visited him and sent him a message: • “Go on an adventure to discover your father’s whereabouts. If he is alive bring him home to fight off the suitors. But if he’s dead then remarry your mother.”

  5. Appointment 4 Telemachos is very determined. He believes that his father is still alive. Once he finds his father, he knows together they will take down the suitors. He prepared a speech for the people describing how he will find his father then defeat the suitors who destroy the Telemachos’ house.

  6. Final Diagnosis: Patient Telemachos has grown into a man practically overnight. His determination to find his father and his new confidence portrays his new, mature man.
