  1. Understanding  ohs in a  amplifier When  you  find  the  term  ohs  in  your  500w amp, it is important to realize that this  is used to measure resistance. In most cases,  audio amps are designed in a way where they  are able to work with a resistance of 4, 8 or  even 16 ohm resistance. In order to get the  optimum  performance  of  a  system,  there  is  need for correct impedance or total resistive  load of the amp.

In  case  the  impedance  of  the loudspeaker is too high,  this  will  reduce  the  power  that  is  delivered  to  the  speaker. On the other hand,  if  the  total  impedance  of  the loudspeaker is too low,  this will increase the amount of power that  will be delivered to a loudspeaker. This may  result in an overload of the speaker and can  result in the amp getting damaged. No  matter  the  amount of speakers,  it  is  possible  to  connect  them  to  a  single  amp  as  long  as  you  ensure  that  you wire them in the  right  way  and  they  don’t fall collectively  in  the  amp’s  output  impedance.
