The Department of Applied Mathematics invites applications for the Minor in Applied Mathematics programme for entry in 2017/18. This programme offers students a strong mathematical and statistical background, providing solid training in applied mathematics with a focus on real-world applications. Students from any UGC-funded full-time degree programme with a GPA of 2.5 or above are eligible to apply.

  2. Minor in Applied Mathematics 副修應用數學 A Strong Mathematical and Statistical background is a boarding pass to further your studies in various disciplines and land your dream job in a wide array of industries

  3. How does this minor programme benefit students? • It helps broaden students’ studies beyond their major discipline for a solid foundation in applied mathematical techniques for problem-solving. • It provides students with solid training of applied mathematics, including operational research, risk analysis, statistics and financial computing with emphasis on real-world applications.

  4. Who is eligible? • Year 2 students of 2016/17 cohort who are studying in any UGC-funded full time degree programme • Entrance requirement • With GPA of 2.5 or above • When to apply? • October 10-19 2017

  5. How to apply? • In Semester 1 of their Year 2 study, students could submit applications to their Major Department for endorsement. • The endorsed application will be sent to AMA for final approval. • Students can start taking AMA subjects in Semester 2. • Subject to approval by AMA, students may count up to 6 credits from their Major/GUR towards this Minor.

  6. Credit requirement • Subject list • Core (compulsory subjects) # Students who have completed AMA2111, AMA2112, AMA2308, AMA2380, AMA2511, AMA2512, AMA2882 or AMA290 are not required to take AMA2007. They are required to take ONE elective subject to replace AMA2007 instead.

  7. Subject list • Electives Note: At least 9 of the 18 credits required for satisfying the Minor requirements should be at level 3 or above.
