  3. One School: Two Programs Burnt Mills Elementary School ~~~~ Partial Spanish Immersion (PSI) and English Academy(EA)

We Are One… As one collective body, we will strive to: • Demonstrate high expectations for all students; • Build an even stronger Partial Spanish Immersion (PSI) program; • Inspire and motivate students and staff to come to BMES every day excited to work, eager to learn and ready to have fun; • Create a more inclusive school environment where students in both programs have as many opportunities as possible to interact academically and socially and; • Strengthen the home-school connection through open, timely and transparent communication

Coordinator’s Responsibilities • Serve as the liaison between the foreign language immersion office and the school • Provide professional development opportunities for teachers • Monitor and maintain student database and enrollment status • Administer assessments to incoming students • Keep parents informed on instructional programming and upcoming events • Plan and facilitate quarterly parent meetings • Purchase and update curriculum and instructional materials • Support teachers with curricular and instructional needs

  8. K-2 Instructional Program Kindergarten & First Grade: All classes are self-contained. Students will receive instruction in Spanish in all content areas . A paraeducator is available to support the instructional program. Ms. Aranga is the kindergarten teacher and Ms. Canales is the 1st grade teacher. Second Grade: All classes are self-contained. Students will receive math and science instruction in Spanish and reading, writing and social studies instruction in English. Mr. Andrade is the teacher.

  9. 3rd Grade Instructional Program Third Grade: • Morning: Students in the EA and PSI program will be divided between three teachers (Ms. Cohen, Ms. Edgar, and Ms. Portillo) to receive reading and social studies instruction in English from 9:30 – 10:50 a.m. and writing instruction in English from 12:30 – 1:10 p.m. • Afternoon: Students in the PSI program will receive math and science instruction in Spanish from Mrs. Sacks. Students in the EA program will receive math and science instruction in English from Ms. Edgar and Ms. Portillo. Classes are from 1:10 – 3:20 p.m.

  10. 4th Grade Instructional Program Fourth Grade: • Morning: Students in the PSI program will receive math and science instruction in Spanish from Mrs. Sacks. Students in the EA program will receive math and science instruction in English from Ms. Creegan and Ms. Klingensmith. Classes are from 9:30-10:10 p.m. (science) and 10:10-11:20 a.m. (math) *An academic intervention teacher will support the EA math/science block. • Afternoon: Students will be divided between three teachers (Ms. Cohen, Ms. Creegan, and Ms. Klingensmith) to receive writing, reading and social studies instruction in English. Classes are from 11:20-11:50 a.m. (writing) and 1:30-3:20 p.m. (reading and social studies)

  11. 5th Grade Instructional Program Fifth Grade: • Morning: Students in the PSI program will receive math and science instruction in Spanish from Ms. Johnson. Students in the EA program will receive math and science instruction in English from Ms. Brooking and Ms. Jones. Classes are 9:30-10:50 p.m. (math) and 10:50-11:30 a.m. (science). *A math teacher will provide support during the EA math/science block. • Afternoon:Students in the PSI program will receive reading, writing and social studies instruction in English from Ms. Johnson. Students in the EA program will receive reading, writing and social studies instruction in English from Ms. Brooking and Ms. Jones. Classes are from 1:20-2:40 p.m. (reading and social studies) and 2:40-3:20 p.m. (writing). *A reading teacher will provide support during the EA reading, writing, and social studies block.
