  6. Pre Conference • What is the expected student outcome of today’s lesson? • What have the students done to show you they are ready for this lesson? • How will you check for understanding on the part of every learner? • What else do you want me to know about today’s lesson? • What questions can I help you answer?

  7. Observation • Make sure there is permission to video. • If not, just record the teacher. • Sit where you can see the teacher and students. Move around as needed. • Record about 10 minutes of the lesson.

  9. Label the Events • Identify the presence of the elements of effective instruction (TPEs) Label them when viewing the tape. • Look for Cause and Effect relationships: “When you _______ , this happened_____” • Begin to identify what you want to reinforce and what you want the teacher to extend.

  13. One New Idea • Start with what worked. • Introduce outcome of new idea. • Brainstorm possible applications. • Select first application to use in upcoming lesson.

  14. What did we discuss that will be helpful in the next lesson? How do you expect the lesson to be different? Commitment

  15. Results • How will you know? • Commitment to try new idea • Think of ways to assess the effectiveness of your conference by viewing further student work: “When you teach the lesson tomorrow, please stop by and show me how the students did.”
