  2. What is a Community? A community is a group of people who have something in common Communities people belong to: • sports clubs • friends • music groups • drama clubs • religions • neighbourhoods

  3. Benefits of Living in Communities • Sharing – ideas, objects, talents, resources • Organising – transport, schools, hospitals • Providing for people’s needs – belonging, love, fulfilment, self-esteem

  4. What is Communication? Imparting or exchanging information by speaking, writing or using some other medium Forms of communication: • talking face to face • talking on the phone • texting • emailing • television • writing • Facebook

  5. Community Breakdown • When a community fails to work and is no longer achieving its aims or is not benefiting its members

  6. Why Communities Break Down • People don’t carry out their roles • A lack of co-operation • Poor communication • People argue about what is happening • Poor leadership
