  5. Key Takeaways: Committee Formation • Committee head sees a need and champions the creation or alteration of the TTO site • Committee head has clear vision of what the site should accomplish • Committee head identifies key stakeholders, departments, and organizations that should be involved in creating or changing the TTO website, with an emphasis on diverse backgrounds to bring different perspectives to the table • Must have “buy-in” of the leaders of the departments and organizations and their willingness to devote time and resources to creating a site or overhauling an existing one • The University of Rochester committee was primarily made up of department leaders

  9. Site Execution: Two-Page Summaries

  10. Site Execution: PowerPoint Slides • Academic exercise within unique course: half MBA students and half graduate and doctoral engineering students • Creates value-add: more information about the market opportunity and competitors of the technology • Coming soon! • Requires some quality control and editing • Must be reviewed for accuracy

  11. Key Takeaways: Site Execution • Determine if a new website will be created or if you would like to “house” this information on an existing site • Choose content creator(s) — often case managers or leaders in TTO; ensure text is written in easy-to-understand, market opportunity terms • Choose web developer(s) to design and execute site; add many links to the site from partner organizations and other high-traffic web pages • Choose designer to create a two-page template and a PowerPoint template; determine the “headings” and format of these; stick to the format for consistency • Get “buy-in” from and generate excitement among the inventors/researchers • Determine who should be listed as contacts and make it easy for companies and/or entrepreneurs to get in touch with the TTO • Committee creates an approval process for site content and edits; important to have the inventors/researchers review for accuracy but not make the text too technical • Get approval from organizational leaders, i.e., senior administrators • Continue to make updates and keep the site dynamic, i.e., “Featured Technology of the Month” • Publicize the site internally and externally (kick-off event, press release, email announcements, etc.)
