  5. What we know: “outsourcing” definition • Outsourcing is the contracting out of a business process, which an organization may have previously performed internally. • The practice of purchasing a business function—instead of providing it internally—is a common feature of any modern economy and common across higher education. • An outsourcing deal may also involve transfer of the employees and assets involved to the outsourcing business partner. • Outsourcing is an attempt to leverage specialization and training for improved services. • Outsourcing is an attempt to leverage economies of scale (with a national or larger company for example) to lower costs.

  6. What we know: outsourcing examples • Local outsourcing examples • TSU bookstore (Follett) • TSU dining service (Sodexo) • TSU job order contracting (Alpha) • TAMU example • http://youtu.be/Gpt_h3Dl0oE • http://youtu.be/i9ZZc-S4ryE

  7. What we know: regardless of any outsource decision • We need our service staff – regardless of any outsource decision. • We (administration) want service staff who are fully engaged, satisfied and enjoying their work – regardless of any outsource decision. • We (administration) will work to make sure that all service staff are fully engaged, satisfied and enjoying their work - regardless of any outsource decision.

  8. What we don’t know • If • When • What • How • Who • How it is working for service staff at local ISD… • How it is working for service staff in Dining Services…

  9. Balance of meeting - • For those who feel they might be affected and want to discuss further, please stay for small group discussions. • Those who don’t want to stay and discuss further are free to go.

  10. Questions/Concerns? • Small group (5 people) discussion of questions/concerns • Regroup to list top 5 questions/concerns

  11. Wrap up • We will continue to communicate what we know – do you want a monthly meeting? • We will analyze with Mr. Ray to see if this even makes sense at TSU. • Let’s continue to communicate and work together to create the best outcome. • Let’s manage the rumors – if you hear something, check the facts. Call me or Mr. Standridge. • Let’s stay focused on our mission, and no matter what, WE NEED YOU, to accomplish our mission. Thank you!
