Information Technology (IT) is the component of a technology involving the development, maintenance, and use of computer systems, software, and networks for the processing and distribution of data IT professionals strive to solve business/enterprise problems using computing resources IT plays an important role in shaping our daily lives, both at work and at home The role of IT will be further enhanced as the business frontiers extend beyond any expected horizon A postgraduate Master degree in IT will be a valuable asset for the IT/IS professionals in positioning themselves in the challenging IT world

Why MIT @OUM? • The Master of Information Technology (MIT) at OUM offers an opportunity to enhance your managerial and technical competencies in the challenging field of information technology and become the future knowledge workers; • It gives the balance between the theory and application; and • The skills and knowledge gained in MIT are transferable across industries.

Objectives of the MIT Programme At the end of the programme, graduates should be able to: Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of essential facts, concepts, principles, and theories relating to Information Technology; Apply theoretical principles of Information Technology in relevant areas; Design, implement and manage Information Technology solutions and resources, and recognize the impact of technology on individuals, organisation and society; and Integrate various technology solutions.

Entry requirements Bachelor's Degree with minimum CGPA 2.50 or its equivalent in any field of study; OR Bachelor's Degree or its equivalent in any field of study with CGPA less than 2.50 and 5 years relevant working experiences; OR Flexible Entry: 35 years old with STPM / recognized Diploma / Matriculation or equivalent qualifications with relevant work experiences.   6. Programme Structure • 3 components of courses (subjects): • Core courses • Electives • Project

  7. Breakdown of Courses **Students with non IT-degrees (or IT-degree with CGPA < 2.5) must take TWO additional courses as AUDIT

  8. Programme Structure 1. OUM has the flexibility to offer any courses in any semester2. The courses are subjected to change without prior notice3. The offering of the elective courses is the sole discretion of the faculty

  9. MIT Electives Note: The courses in the program are subject to change without prior notice • Select 2 elective courses from the following • Knowledge Management • Information System Planning • Network Security

  10. Project Each student is required to complete 6 credit hours of project work in the specialised field of his/her choice

  11. Learning Methodology

  12. Learning Methods 1. Self-Managed Learning (90 hours) • Study independently according to time availability. • Textbook, customized Course Guide, and compilation of materials. 2. Scheduled Seminars (15 hours) • Conducted by facilitators (professors/experts in the industry). Seminars (3 hours per session) 5 times per semester per course in KL. 3. On-Line Collaborative Learning (15 hours) • On-line group discussion on case studies and project work.

  15. Digital Library Print Collection at Central Library & Regional Centre More than 9000 volumes of books Collection comprises of basic textbooks and reference materials. Books can be borrowed out by students for 5 books for 30 days. Branch library has less number of books. Students can request for inter-library loan from the Central Library.

Digital Collection and Resources e-Books EBRARY contains more than 40,000 titles of digital books (multi-disciplines) including MC, ICT, Business and Management BOOKS24x7contains more than 6000 titles of digital books (MC, ICT, MM, Business & Management related to ICT) XREFERPLUS encyclopedias, dictionaries, thesauri and books of quotations IT KNOWLEDGEBASE Information Systems Management, Information Systems Security, Data Management, E-Commerce, Computer Applications INFOSECURITYNET BASE provides resources of Information Security

  17. Digital Collection and Resources e-journals INFOTRAC 11 millions articles on advertising, economics, history and women’s studies TAYLOR & FRANCIS Open and Distance Learning area. Access via printed copy and online.

  19. Duration of Study • To complete: • 6 semesters • 2 years • Maximum period: • 12 semesters • 4 years • Three intakes per year (Jan, May, Sept)
