  2. Parts of a verb • There are 2 parts of a verb • Stem hablar • Ending hablar • Stem tells the action • Hablar – to speak • Ending tells who & when • Hablo – I speak (present) • Hablaste – you spoke (preterit)

  3. Preterit • There are 2 kinds of past tense in Spanish • Preterite is 1 of them • It is used for talking about actions completed in the past.

  4. All Regular Preterit Endings -AR -é -aste -ó -amos -asteis -aron -ER & -IR -í -iste -ió -imos -isteis -ieron

  5. To Form: • Remove infinitive ending • Habl- • Add preterit ending • Hablé • Hablaste • Habló • Hablamos • Hablasteis • Hablaron
