  1. Review for 1st 9 weeks EXAM/Benchmark Are you prepared?

  2. In June 2001, the Intel Corporation announced that they could produce a silicon transistor that could switch on and off 1.5 trillion times a second. • Express the speed of the transistor in scientific notation. 1.5 trillion is 1,500,000,000,000 in standard notation. This in scientific notation is 1.5 x 1012. Raise your hand if you got this correct!

  3. ANSWER: 1,000,000,000

  4. 1 billionth=.000000001 = 1 x 10-9 20 = 2 x 101 ANSWER: 20 x 10-9 = 2 x 101 x 10-9 = 2 x 10-8

  5. 4. The diameter of the nucleus of an atom is about 10-15 meter. Express this in standard form. ANSWER: 10-15 = 1 x 10-15= 0.000000000000001

  6. 5. A ruby-throated hummingbird weighs about 3-2 ounce. Evaluate 3-2.

  7. 7. A ruby-throated hummingbird breathes 2 x 53 times per minute while at rest. Evaluate this amount. ANSWER: 2 x 53 = (2 x 5) x (5 x 5) = 10 x 25 = 250 breaths per minute

  8. 8. A(-3, 7) is reflected across the x-axis. What is A’? ANSWER: (-3, -7)

  9. 9. What special angle pair is pictured here? ANSWER: Alternate exterior angles If these angles are congruent what does that tell us about line AB and line CD? ANSWER: They are parallel.

  10. 11. 2 and 4 are what angle pair? ANSWER: Vertical angles How do their measurements compare? ANSWER: They are ALWAYS congruent. 13. If angles 7 and 8 are congruent, does that prove that the lines are parallel? ANSWER: No!

  11. 14. If you know the measure of 2 angles of a triangle, explain how to determine the measure of the missing angle. ANSWER: Add the two angles that you know and subtract that sum from 180°.

  12. 15. What is the length of segment AB? ANSWER: 4 cm What proportion did you write to determine this? Triangle ABC ͠ Triangle ADE BC = AB DE AD 3 = x x + 4 x = 4

  13. 17. The point A(-7, -3) is rotated 180° clockwise. What is A’? ANSWER: A’(7, 3)

  14. What is the name of the angle pair whose sum is 180°? ANSWER: Supplementary. Complementary angles total 90°. 19. What is the name of the line that intersects 2 or more lines?

  15. 20. If this display were on your calculator what would it mean? 3.4789 E7 Please be aware some calculators may display scientific notation like this: 3.4789 07 How are they different?
