CURRENT EVENTS APRIL 19 BOMBING AT BOSTON MARATHON • U.S. federal authorities are hunting for suspects after two bombs exploded near the Boston Marathon finish line on Monday, leaving three dead, more than 170 wounded and turning the city's signature sporting event into a bloody scene of horror. • U.S. President Barack Obama cautioned that "we still do not know who did this, or why. It attracted world class and hobby runners from over 50 countries

CURRENT EVENTS APRIL 19 TEXAS SEARCH OFFICIALS 'TIRELESSLY WORKING' AFTER EXPLOSION • State, county and local officials are "tirelessly working" to try and locate people after a deadly explosion at a fertilizer plant in the small town of West, Texas, a safety official says. • The massive blast, which sent flames shooting into the sky and rained burning embers, shrapnel and other debris, occurred on Wednesday evening about 30 minutes after firefighters had been called to battle a blaze at the West Fertilizer Co. plant in West, a community of 2,800 about 30 kilometres north of Waco. • The explosion happened just before 8 p.m. CT and could be heard as far away as Waxahachie, 70 kilometres to the north. • Ground motion from the blast registered as a 2.1-magnitude earthquake, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

CURRENT EVENTS APRIL 19 SNAIL MAIL SLOWS TO A CRAWL • Traditional mail delivery in Canada declined 6.4% , it continues a trend that saw Canada Post move 1 billion fewer pieces of mail last year than it did in 2006 • If there were not collective agreement concessions last year at Canada Post it would have lost $25 million • After the concession it turned a profit of $127 million • Areas for growth are the target including parcel delivery which grew by 6.7% last year Online shopping drives demand for parcel delivery, one of the few bright spots for Canada Post
