History • African Americans moved north into industrial communities/ghettos • Industry moved from the city to the suburbs; created all-white suburbs • Segregationist zoning ordinanceslegally enforced racial segregation • Divided city streets by race • African Americans were intimidated/scared of the white neighborhoods • A Raisin in the Sun • Mama dreams of moving out of the one room apartment • Buys a house in Clybourne Park; an all white neighborhood • The residents are not open to segregation • Karl Lindner offers the family money not to move in Segregation Housing Issues
