  2. Las reglas • Feminine nouns that begin with a stressed a, á or the silent h followed by a stress a take the masculine definite article el or the indefinite article un. • el agua el águila El área • el arma el hacha el ala • el hambre

  3. The reason such nouns take these articles is that it would be difficult to pronounce the two vowels -la a, una a- together.

  4. Despite taking the masculine article the nouns are still feminine and therefore the plural articles are used in the feminine form, unas and las respectively. • las aguas las águilas las áreas • las armas las hachas las alas

  5. ¿Cómousamos los adjectivosentonces? • The adjectives that we use to describe these words will follow the same rules as if they took the feminine article. • -El agua es potable • -Las aguas turbulentas del mar pueden ser peligrosas.
