  1. Global Muon Trigger Global Trigger http://wwwhephy.oeaw.ac.at/p3w/cms/trigger Vienna Group H. Bergauer, Ph. Glaser, M. Jeitler, K. Kastner, B. Neuherz, T. Nöbauer, I. Magrans de Abril, I. Mikulec, M. Padrta, H. Rohringer, H. Sakulin, Th. Schreiner, J. Strauss, A. Taurok, C.-E. Wulz Presented by Claudia-Elisabeth Wulz Trigger Meeting CERN, 6 Dec. 2005

  5. Module Status

  6. PSB9U Pipelined Synchronizing Buffer • All 3 available boards are working • Bit error rate tests have been succesful (no bit errors in 1013 transfers) • Signal transfer from Global Calorimeter Trigger • in principle OK • Problems with wrongly made cables • led to delays (and almost ruined a PSB …) • now understood • Technical trigger inputs • Working with TOTEM • Work on scintillator hodoscope min.bias trigger / beam gas veto • is planned

  7. TCS + L1AOUT Trigger Control System + Output Module TIM PSB Timing Board Pipeline Synchronizing Buffer Global Calorimeter Trigger Integration Tests with Global Calorimeter Trigger

  8. GMT Global Muon Trigger Logic Board • Module has been commissioned in Vienna • Chips redesigned for CAEN controller • One remaining error, which will be solved by a new chip on new mezzanine board: one muon always gets same charge. • Further tests are planned with spares in Vienna • Software integration is under way • Planned integration tests at CERN in 904 (Dec. 2005-Feb. 2006): • RPC LB-TB-Sort-GMT • CSC-TF-GMT • DTSC-DTTF-Sort-GMT Status: Sent to CERN today!

  9. GTL, FDL and GTFE • GTL9U • Board is produced. Commissioning has started in Vienna. • FDL • Available for some time. Needed in Vienna for tests with GTL9U. • GTFE • Board is produced. • Basic electrical tests OK. • Commissioning has started. • Fast Monitoring Module (FMM) • responsible: CERN • Communication with Global Trigger OK • Software development: Hannes Sakulin

  10. Trigger Control System and Timing • Trigger Control System (TCS) is operational • Software integration into Trigger Supervisor • TIM modules are operational • Global Clock (TTC) is running • responsible: CERN • Trigger output goes to TTCci module, under test • locale distribution by Vienna TIM module • Emulators • responsible: Imperial College, London • Communication with Global Trigger OK • continue to work on firmware • Fast Monitoring Module (FMM) • responsible: CERN • Communication with Global Trigger OK • Software development: Hannes Sakulin

  11. Test Schedule • Ongoing in 904: TCS, PSB input board, TTC • Trigger Control System validation • Test with Global Calorimeter Trigger • Test with TTC • Jan. - March 2006: GTL6U, FDL • test logic and trigger decision • From Dec. 2005: GMT • test with other muon subsystems • Jan. - March 2006: preparation for magnet test and Cosmic Challenge • From Apr. 2006: GTL • From May 2006: GTFE

  12. Summary At least one board of all Global Trigger modules exists. Tests in building 904 are ongoing. Software development efforts are reinforced. GUIs for trigger setup and operation exist. Participation in the cosmic challenge during the magnet test is prepared. Latency has been verified.
