  2. PROPOSAL • A UEMS PRM Section STATEMENT concerning hydrotherapy and balneology (Hanover-2004)

STATEMENT • The UEMS PRM Section recognizes the importance of Hydrotherapy, Balneology and Climatology in PRM practice • Evidence based data is now growing in Balneology • More research is needed • The UEMS PRM Section promotes good clinical practice in PRM activities. • Create a Working Group on Balneology within the Professional Affairs Committee • Work with ISMH • Define taxonomy • Advise on science and education initiatives

  5. Defininition of our Profession • Hidrologists • Hidrology Doctors • Competence • Core curriculum in Hidrology • Recognition / Certification UEMS / ISMH • Other countries • WHO

  6. BALNEOLOGY FACILITIES • Medical and non Medical • Thermal water • Sea water • Tap water (with higienyc rules) • Certification (see my previous conference on the website of the ISMH)

  7. Glossary • English is currently the most common scientific language but there is a lack of balneologic terms. • So I purpose again latin and greek words as it happens before for instance within basic medical sciences such as anatomy • The book from Dr Cebollados (Universidad Complutense de Madrid) is an excellent tool and could serve as a reference.

  8. Task of ISMH • WORKING TOGETHER WITH UEMS • TRYING TO CREATE CONSENSUS BETWEEN DIFFERENT COUNTRIES • TEXTBOOK • CD ROM • CORE CURRICULUM • SERVE AS CERTIFICATION AGENT FOR HIDROTHERAPY /BALNEOLOGY FACILITIES, EQUIPMENTS, PROFESSIONAL AND PROGRAMS CERTIFICATION.

  9. CONCLUSION • ISMH sould be the umbrella organization • We agree in founding a European Secion • We also agree in sarting it by the creation of a Stearing committee • We also need the cooperation of National delegates • We musta start working at once!
