Unit Overview • both units are closely linked. • examine how incidents are graded & the response to these incidents. • how the uniform services and other agencies plan their respond to all manner of incidents. • The unit will culminate in a day-long, simulated, major incident, table-top, exercise!

  5. What is an incident? In small groups create a mind-map of the types of incident that the emergency services respond to.

  6. Definition … An incident is: “an event or happening, usually sudden, unexpected and unwelcome that can cause loss of life, injury or damage to property. It involves human beings and neither victims or the emergency services know about it in advance”

  7. Incident or accident? • Incident does not mean the same as accident. • An incident can be caused deliberately. • All accidents are incidents but not all incidents are accidents.

  8. Emergency Incident … Any event requiring rapid attendance by the police, fire and rescue or ambulance services or a combination of them.

  9. Rescue Fire Hazardous material Alarm Explosion Civil disturbance Crime in progress Report of crime (not in progress) Missing person Person at risk Road traffic collision Categories of incidents

  10. Incident Grading … Working in pairs research the ACPO guidelines on Incident Grading and present your findings to the group.
