  2. Overview of Transfer Pathways Students graduating with a two-year transfer-oriented associate degree program. Students completing a one-year General Education Certificate. Transfer articulation agreements for specific degree programs.

  3. Key Transfer Terms “Guaranteed Admissions Agreement (GAA)” GAA is an agreement that guarantees general admission to VCU for VCCS students who complete a two-year transfer-oriented Associates degree with a minimum GPA of 2.5. GAA does NOT guarantee admission into specific VCU programs (e.g., art, engineering, health science programs). Careful selection of VCCS courses will result in the completion of the university core education and lower-level general education requirements for VCU degree programs *

  4. Key Transfer Terms “Articulation Agreements” Articulation agreements are agreements between individual community colleges and specific VCU schools or programs. The agreements exist to provide extra guidance on what courses students should take at the transfer institution in order to facilitate a successful transition to VCU. Upon the completion of all requirements that are dictated in these agreements (including GPA expectations), students are guaranteed admission to VCU.

  5. Key Transfer Terms “Transfer Oriented Degree Programs” Associate of Arts (A.A.) Associate of Science (A.S.) Associate of Arts and Science (A.A.&.S)

  6. Guaranteed Admission Agreement Dual Enrollment statement (updated 2013) “High school students enrolled in a dual enrollment program and who earn an associate degree concurrent with graduation from high school must follow the freshman applicant deadlines and indicate they are applying as a freshman when prompted on the university application.”

  7. Guaranteed Admissions Agreement Key details: Letter of Interest- After completion of 15 credits Transfer-oriented associate degrees = Associate of Arts (A.A.), Associate of Science (A.S.), and Associate of Arts and Science (A.A.&.S). General Education Certificate Key details: Students who complete a General Education certificate at a Virginia community college with a 2.5 cumulative GPA and who meet eligibility requirements are guaranteed admission and may enroll in VCU. GEC can be completed in 2-3 semesters. Minimum GPA requirement = 2.5 with no grades below a C (i.e., repeat D or F grades at community college). 9. Letter of Interest After earning 15 credit hours at the community college, students should submit a Letter of Interest to VCU. This allows VCU to provide pre-admission advising to those prospective students. We can also track the academic progress of students as they prepare to graduate from John Tyler and transition to VCU.
