What is Information Technology? • Information Technology (IT) is the component of a technology involving the development, maintenance, and use of computer systems, software, and networks for the processing and distribution of data • IT professionals strive to solve business/enterprise problems using computing resources

Overview of BIT @OUM • The course is concerned with the design and implementation of information systems as well to understand the basic underlying principles of computing • The skills required of an information technology specialist include systems analysis, systems design, programming, database design and development, systems, hardware and operating system, and interpersonal communication skills, team skills and management.  • This degree has been designed to meet this need, and will produce graduates who are competent and knowledgeable in the discipline, possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and who are able to critically analyse business problems and develop creative and innovative enterprise solutions.

Facts and Figures about BIT @OUM • BIT was first offered in Sept 2001 and is one of the pioneer programs at OUM • A total of 4000 learners had graduated thus far • Currently a total of 772 students enrolled locally in this program • There are 100 international students enrolled in BIT • More than 200 part time tutors involved in conducting the program and dedicated 12 internal lecturers in overseeing the program • BIT received full accreditation from MQA in 2004 and it is recognised by JPA

Why BIT @OUM • It gives the balance between the theory and application and the skills and knowledge gained in BIT are transferable across industries • Learners can choose the specialization based on their interest • Specialization such as “Open Source Computing” comes with industry modules and certification • It prepare the learners for the Malaysian Information Technology Professional Examination (MITPE) (http://mitpe.meteor.com.my/) as well • Excellent pathways into industry or research after graduation.

  15. Target Group • IT Technicians • IT Support Staffs • Fresh School Leavers • Diploma Holders (in any field) OR • ANYONE interested to pursue their career in Information Technology

  16. Duration • 4 ½ years (14 semesters) • Three intakes per year (Jan, May, Sept) • Those with credit transfer could save 1-4 semesters

  17. Career Prospects • The programme has been designed to meet the country’s growing need of IT professionals • In this regard, the graduates of this programme could become software developer, Linux administrator, mobile apps developer, system/network administrator, researcher

Entry Requirements Normal Entry Passed SPM/SPMV/MCE or equivalent with 1 credit in BM; AND Passed STPM/HSC or equivalent with at least 2 principals (CGPA 2.00); ORPassed a recognized Diploma; OR Passed a recognized Matriculation certificate. OR Flexible Entry Malaysian Citizen AND Be at least 21 years old on 1st of January (application year); AND Passed at least PMR or equivalent; AND Posess prior learning experience and / or knowledge relevant to the programme applied; AND Passed Flexible Entry Assessment;

  19. How to Apply? Complete the OUM application form at http://fastrac.oum.edu.my/ 2. Submit 2 sets of certified IC, all academic certificates and transcripts. 3. Processing fee of RM30.00 (Undergraduate programmes) or RM50.00 (Postgraduate programmes) will be debited to student account.
