ADVANTAGES of wave power Waves can produce energy either offshore or on coastline plants and don’t contribute to global warming UK has lots of waves to use because of the Atlantic Ocean Can produce a great deal of energy Not expensive to operate and maintain Waves can produce energy either offshore or on coastline plants It will not run out The energy is free - no fuel needed, no waste produced Disadv.

  3. HOW IT WORKS The Islay Power Station OWC Adv. This power station is basically a sloping reinforced egg shell… …It has to be built into a rock face and it requires an inlet big enough for sea water to pass freely into the chamber… …waves enter the shell chamber… …causing the water level to rise… …thus compressing the air in the chamber… …the air is forced through a ‘blowhole’… …and into the ‘Wells Turbine (which turns the same way, irrespective of the airflow) It was designed by Alan Wells of Queen’s University… …as the water inside the chamber recedes as the waves outside draw back, the air is sucked back under pressure into the chamber, keeping the turbine moving… Courtesy of http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/sci/tech/1032148.stm

Needs a suitable site, where waves are consistently strong. Some designs are noisy. THE FUTURE of wave power Wave Potential in the World this is about a quarter of our demand we just need to harness it UK wave power potential is about 60-80 billion kwh a year Enough wave power to power all domestic demands So, if a good instrument for collection can be developed, the future looks bright for wave power If this is harnessed, global warming could be slowed down
