  1. The Secrets of the Internet By Mrs. Maxwell’s Fifth Grade

  2. Can you trust the Internet? • You may think that all the information on the Internet is true but not all of it is. • Information on websites can be biased. • When you look at a website, you need to think about who created the website. Anyone can design a website and say they are an expert on a subject. This does not necessarily mean that it is true.

  3. What happens when you get wrong information? • Mr. Abrams lives on Block Island and has a farm with lots of animals. He always wanted a camel and brought Nyla to live on Block Island.

  4. NYLA

  5. Internet Lies • Mr. Abram’s friend gave him information about special milk for camels that they found on the Internet. • Mr. Abrams bought the milk and gave Nyla lots of the special milk. • Nyla started to get sick. They contacted the milk company and were told to give her more milk. • Nyla became very sick. Mr. Abrams flew a vet to Block Island and told him about the milk.

  6. Nyla the camel • The vet told Mr. Abrams to stop giving Nyla the milk. • Mr. Abrams found out the information about the milk was wrong and it came from the milk company that wanted to sell more milk. • Nyla almost died because of false information from the Internet.

  7. How do you know if you find false information? • Well, you could check where the information came from, who made the website and how long ago it was created. • Try to contact the company or creator of the website. That information should be on the website.

  8. Which search engine is the best? • We chose Ask Jeeves as the best search engine. • If you want to find accurate information quickly log onto www.ask.com • Simply type in what you want information on and click go.

  9. Camels • Did you know that really strong camels usually carry from 500 lbs. to 600 lbs? They cover about 30 miles a day. • Camels usually are 6 to 10 ft tall. • Camels weigh from 550 lbs to 1500 lbs.

  10. Nyla’s Home • Nyla is very healthy and loves her new home on Block Island.

  11. THE END • This is the end of our slide show. We hope you enjoyed it. • Next time you surf the Internet for information, remember us and our slide show. by: Mrs. Maxwell’s 5th Grade Class
