  3. Course Objective To learn – • How computer works, basic principle • How to analyze their performance • How computers are designed and built, what components are needed ? • Issues affecting modern processors (cache, pipelines, CISC, RISC, superscalar, etc)

  5. Course Motivation • design/build a new computer • rare oportunity • design/build a new version of a computer • improve software performance • ability to optimally purchase a computer • provide a solution with an embedded computer

Course Structure • Computer Organization, Architecture, Function & Structure Overview • Simple Computer Architecture • SAP-1 • Modern Computer Architecture • Advanced Computer Architecture • Pipeline, superscalar, CISC vs RISC • Computer Components • Memory, Cache, External Memory, Bus System, I/O

  7. Evalution Rules • Assignment / Quiz : 32.5 % • Mid-Semester Exam : 32.5 % • Final Exam : 35%

  8. Average Final Score (AS) • AS > 80  A • 70 > AS > 79  B • 60 > AS > 69  C • 50 > AS > 59  D • AS < 50  E

  9. Course Rules • Presence is not taken into account for evaluation, but only the present-student’s tasks (assignment/quiz) which will be evaluated • Do not eat during the lecture (drink only) • Late tolerance : 15 mins • For students : you’re still eligible to enter to the class, but your presence won’t be counted • For lecturer : no lecture
