Why is Japan fighting • Want to become great empire again • Economic recovery • Upset with U.S. • Russo-Japanese War : Roosevelt’s treatment of them • Economic sanctions threatened • Oil • Want to get rid of “white” influence • “Asia for Asians” • Believe they are better than other Asians and rule over land taken
