  2. Group Talk progression • Progression should happen as a matter of course as improved linguistic competence feeds into spontaneous talk. • Particular Group Talk skills need to be explicitily taught.

  4. Progression through questioning • Use of question words as timely interjections which gain clarification and explanation • The ‘WHY’ is as important as the ‘BECAUSE’ • Question tags • Determine a new direction by formulating complete questions • Show awareness of audience

  5. Ensuring progression • Use increasingly complex scenarios which demand higher level thinking skills • Allow thinking time (Zeit zum Nachdenken) • End result (hopefully!): An authentic balance of development and shorter interjections
