  10. Scope of Rural Tourism-Austria • No official definition • Definitions: • tourism which takes place in the coutryside (OECD) • tourism that simply considers all non-urban tourism as rural. Tourism, according to an old Austrian folk understanding, refers to a non-business trip (Dr. Meinhad Breiling) • an ecologically and socio-culturally compatible niche of tourism which allows a place to adjust to the natural particularities of the region, to the flora and fauna, to its historic and cultural roots and to the life and work-connections of people. Its tasks are support of tourism forms in agriculture, nature experience, regional culture or education and social care (Prof. Albrecht Steinecke)
