  2. ATP: Adenosine Triphosphate ATP is the most common energy-carrier molecule in the cell, in other words it has high-energy bonds. In the picture there’s three boxes of “energy”, symbolizing how there are three phosphate groups in ATP and that it is high-energy. Energy Energy Energy

  3. ADP: ADENOSINE DIpHOSPHATE • ADP is low energy. • When ATP is being broken down to form ADP and inorganic phosphate there is heat that is being given off. There is also a loss of energy from this energy transfer.

  4. AMP: Adenosine Monophosphate AMP (adenosine monophosphate) has absolutely no energy. The AMP contains one phosphate group. The sleeping cat shows that no energy is being produced.

  5. Light-Dependent Reactions • The chlorophyll and other molecules in the membrane of the thylakoids capture sunlight energy and converts some of it into the chemical energy-carrier molecules (ATP and NADPH). • Light-dependent reactions occur in clusters of molecules called photosystems. • Photosystem 1 generates NADPH and photosystem 2 generates ATP.

  6. Light-Independent Reactions • Enzymes in the stroma use the chemical energy of the carrier molecules to drive the synthesis of glucose or other organic molecules. • The C3 Cycle requires CO2 normally from the air, a CO2 capturing sugar(RuBP), enzymes to catalyze all the reactions, and energy in the form of ATP and NADPH.

  7. Contrasting • Sunlight is only involved in the light-dependent reaction. • Light-dependent reaction creates the NADPH and the ATP. • Light-dependent reactions occur in the thylakoid, while the light-independent reactions occur in the stroma. • Light-independent reaction releases ADP and NADP+. • Light-independent reactions use the C3 Cycle. • Comparing • Both the light-independent reaction and the light-dependent reaction occur in the photosynthesis process. • ATP and NADPH are involved in both of the reactions. • Water is also involved in both of the processes.
