  2. Title I--Part A • Education for the Economically Disadvantaged • 10 Schools qualify: • Fairview Elementary • Hillcrest Elementary • John Hay Elementary • Lincoln Heights Elementary

  4. In Addition: • Title IA provides funds to support Local Neglected Children being served at the Youth Emergency Shelter. • These funds help in the education and transition phases of the students’ lives.

  5. Title IIA & IID • Title IIA--High Quality Professional Development • Recruitment & Retention • Class-size Reduction Teachers • Title IID--Enhancing Education through Technology

  6. Title I--Part C and Title III • Title IC--Migrant Education Program • Title III-English Language Learners • Both programs provide teacher assistants to help alleviate barriers related to migrant and ELL status.

  7. Title IV--Part A • Safe and Drug-Free Schools • Violence Prevention & Conflict Resolution Instructional Materials • School Resource Officers • Elementary Guidance Counselors • Professional Development

  8. Title V • Title V--Innovative Programs • Support for Pre-K Classrooms • Media/Teachers’ Center • Support for school nurses • Support for At-Risk Children

Title X-McKinney-Vento Act • Education for Homeless Children and Youth • On average, over 400 students per school year meet the federal definition of “Homeless.” • Tami Morelock is Hamblen County’s Homeless Liaison. • Grant provides school supplies, personal hygiene items and transportation to original school.

Title IV: What’s been done in the past: • Transfer funds from Title IIA into Title IV to provide: • $20,000 School Resource Officers • Fund approximately 1 month of elementary school counselors’ salaries • Provide conflict resolution and violence prevention instructional materials • Provide professional development • Anti-Bullying Programs: Oewlus & No Bullying!

Purpose of Title IV-Part A • The Safe and Drug-Free Schools and Communities Act is to support programs to prevent violence in and around schools; prevent the illegal use of alcohol, drugs and tobacco by young people; and foster a safe and drug-free learning environment that supports academic achievement.
