  4. If Americans quit smoking, about 87% of all lung cancer deaths would be eliminated. • It is estimated that secondhand smoke is responsible for 1,000 cancer deaths per year in the U.S. among nonsmokers. • Smoking accounts for at least 30% of all cancer deaths (not just lung cancer).
