Q & A Q) In regards to continuous improvement, what steps do you use to improve/change operations/policy from the ground up so that all employees adhere to this change and incorporate with daily tasks? A) 5p/5s teams which come down from Corporate. (5 points of improvement) Q)With the gas prices jumping around and the economy in a slow turn, how do you plan to compete with big competitors when it comes to technology? A)Technology teams that keep up with changing technology and strive for improvement Q)How have the changes in global environmental technologies and lean manufacturing concepts impacted the Mitsubishi’s environmental vision of 2021? Are you still on track and making progress? A)Still on track and making progress. Most of refuse is recycled and striving to make more recyclable.

  9. Q & A Continue Q) What are the major milestones toward the environmental vision of 2021 that you are concerned with and have you made contingency plans for these situations? A) To be 100% recyclable, even recycling Styrofoam cups which is called Fibrated paper. Q) In the interest of both the stakeholders and shareholders and everyone that trades stock, do you feel that the company has the interest of the little guy in mind? And how do you give assurance to these employees that Mitsubishi Electric isn’t going anywhere. A) Yes, constant improvement with employee input. Q) With providing quality for every product, what sets you apart in manufacturing and customer service from everyone else? What is you defect percent, and what steps do you take to correct the process? A) Continuous improvement and customer satisfaction.

  10. Q & A Continued What type of quality system do they implement, (ISO 9000, Six Sigma, etc.)? ISO/ TS 16949:2002, the technical specification, was approved and issued in March 2002, as an automotive sector-specific QMS set of requirements which uses ISO 9001:2000 (verbatim) as its base.It replaced ISO/TS16949:1999 based on ISO 9001:1994, and is intended to be an alternative to QS-9000:1998 and other national automotive OEM supplier requirements.

Q) What is the criterion for these awards? • Having good worldwide quality ratings Q) What are your opinions on: Continuous Improvement (Kaizen) and Just-In-Time/Lean Systems (Kanban)? A) They are tough to deal with sometimes because of the strict and limited time frames and supplies that sometimes arise.

  12. Q & A Continued Q) How does the organization utilize Problem Solving Tools, such as Pareto Charts, Cause-and-Effect Diagrams, Gantt Charts, Quality Function Deployment (QFD), etc...? A)Track defects, time usage, quality control and inspections, which tracked and kept with the company. Q) How does the organization utilize Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA)? A) Handle through the QC department with charts and work instructions.

A) Incentive bonuses, gratuities and advancements, as far as corporate decisions all come from Mason, OH or Detroit, OH Q) What types of production facilities do you use? Like automated or manual. A) Mostly automated which is robotic in technology but with some line automation.

  14. Working to Secure a Stable Supply of Energy Approximately 15% of Japan's primary energy is natural gas. At Mitsubishi Corporation, we have been engaged in natural gas operations for around 40 years, including liquefied natural gas, or LNG. We consider ourselves pioneers in the LNG business, and continue to take on new challenges in this burgeoning domain. The following are a few examples of our LNG projects.

  15. Working to Secure a Stable Supply of Energy As of 2010, the worldwide energy demand is 4.6 billion kW. In ten years time, it is expected to grow to 5.5 billion kW. While on the one hand we must deal with this rapid increase in demand, we are also faced with a significant dilemma: How do we realize a low-carbon society? We introduce Mitsubishi Corporation (MC) 's initiatives in renewable energy, which may be the key to solving this dilemma. MC has been promoting the development and proliferation of clean, renewable energy sources, including solar photovoltaic (PV), solar thermal and wind power.

  16. Providing a Comprehensive Supply of Electric Power Electric power infrastructure is an essential part of contemporary society, and as such needs to be safe, reliable, and affordable. We introduce Mitsubishi Corporation's electric power operations – businesses that are responding to unique needs in different regions around the world.

  17. The Future of Water Management Water is a vital ingredient for businesses, society and life in general. However, the world is currently on the brink of a water crisis. In the following feature we would like to introduce Mitsubishi Corporation's various water business initiatives. As we accumulate a range of water treatment techniques and management expertise, we look to provide comprehensive water solutions including supply and drainage services, sea water desalination and recycling of waste water. Through these efforts we are striving to meet the challenge of solving the world's water problems.

Creating Cities Friendly to People and Environment More environmentally friendly compared with airplanes and automobiles, rail systems are gaining favor as the most desirable form of transit infrastructure around the world.Amid this rail renaissance, what kind of role can Japan play as one of the worlds most rail-linked countries?Mitsubishi Corporation (MC), working together with partners in various countries and regions around the world, contributes to the realization of convenient and comfortable societies through its transportation systems business, which is represented by rail systems. Projects that MC has engaged in this field are presented herein.
