GenMob is designed to respond to the PT07 (2nd Open Call)under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism PARTNERS ROLES AND RESPONSABILITIES • IGOT (Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning), CEG (Centre of Geographical Studies), University of Lisbon: Scientific coordination and administrative support • Noroff University College: Scientific support (data protection and security; interactive media) • MUNICIPIA, SA: Technical Support – Personal Trackers & Smartphone Apps • Media Enterprise: Technical Support – Designing and animating the final outputs of the project for dissemination • Other Partners of the project: municipalities (municipal/local authorities); private and enterprises (big, small and medium) and NGOs at the local level, voluntarily join the sample and data collection GenMob relies on the concept of Triple Helix (Henry Etzkowitz) to explore university-business-government relations

GenMob is designed to respond to the PT07 (2nd Open Call)under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism BILATERAL COOPERATION • Several efforts to improve the cooperation were carried to strengthen the partnership between IGOT and NUC, including, email, Skype contacts and the September meeting at Kristiansand • Contacts between the two teams occurred for: • New arrangements of the project: new NUC members (Mikhaila Burgess, joining the team); extension of the period of eligibility of the project; further adjustments on the research data collection design • Consultancy: • in digital forensics: NUC 1st report identified the areas of the GenMob project that represent potential legal and ethical concerns in relation to data security (NUC Report: GenMob initial project notes, Dec. 2015) • in interactive media (dissemination of gender studies applied to animation) • CIG Meeting (Lisbon): Patricia Gouveia, represented NUC • During this period IGOT and NUC teams had the opportunity to know more about structure, research and teaching culture of each university by changing experiences • NUC and IGOT have been good partners (notice the presence of the NUC Rector at Gulbenkian meeting!)

GenMob is designed to respond to the PT07 (2nd Open Call)under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism BILATERAL COOPERATION NUC is a private, for profit, institution and IGOT, CEG/UL is a public funded University One of the key factors of this partnership is to explore cultural boundaries and to develop projects with awareness of cultural similarities and differences Another key factor concerns the possibility of integrating the mindset of a public institution, with an emphasis on research, policy analysis and industry contracts from a private institution that engages in research

GenMob is designed to respond to the PT07 (2nd Open Call)under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism EXPECTATIONS Assist the development of public and private strategies that promote local work-life balance To inform public policies support the development of instruments to promote gender equality in reconciling professional activity, family and personal life, at the local level To influence cultural and social changes practices, attitudes of institutions (private and public) deepen knowledge on space-time geographies and influence more inclusive social policies (targeted to private and public organizations) and mobility policies Propose Smart Cities and Big Data concepts and methodologies combined with qualitative research in gender studies towards cities sustainability provide an innovative methodology in gender studies

GenMob is designed to respond to the PT07 (2nd Open Call)under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism METHODOLOGY Capturing geographical and temporal data: track individuals activity as accurately as the technology allows in order to infer travel and work patterns of the different participants. This may be further supplemented by additional surveys Measure, record, organise, analyse and visualize: combining ICT through the use of smartphones, API, GPS and GIS to generate information transposed in indicators, indexes, infographics and video formats Automated collection on individual travel from personal or wearable devices (origin-destination, distances, time of day, movement time/stop, mode of transportation) on week days based on a sample of man and women defined according to urban-metropolitan territories selected and justified The collected data identifies the daily-based mobility pattern: 1) time spent at home, 2) destinations and time of travel, 3) time spent at intermediate locations

GenMob is designed to respond to the PT07 (2nd Open Call)under the European Economic Area Financial Mechanism METHODOLOGY for data gathering Generation of information through that gathered data and creation of visual support SMARTPHONE APP DATA ANALYSIS DISSEMINATION STRATEGIES GPS TRACKER PERSONAL DATA MAPPING POLICIES DATABASES & WEBGIS APP Security Measures: • A combination of (digital) personal geolocation data & social-economic info for each participant • Big Data plus Qualitative Research (to help to understand time-use patterns and mobility choices) SURVEYS • The European Parliament and Council Directive 95/46/EC, has been enacted in Portugal as the Portuguese Data Protection Law nº. 67/98, as such there are legal limitations on the collection, processing and movement of personal data in Portugal • Mobile app issues • User anonymization
