  4. Economy • Bangladesh has tried to industrialize the country • Textile and clothing makers are among the country's largest employers • Fishing and logging are also important • Sri Lanka’s main exports are tea, rubber, and coconut • Gemstones and graphite

  5. Economy • Nepal and Bhutan are very poor and are still mainly agricultural • Tourism is a growing part of the economies of the mountain countries • The United Nations ahs helped these countries develop • Build dams

Cities, Settlement, and Land Use • Pakistan and Bangladesh each have more than 125 million people • Karachi is the largest city and main seaport • Islamabad is the capital of Pakistan • Nepal and Bhutan have very low population density • Kathmandu Valley is the highest density in Nepal • Bangladesh and Sri Lanka are mostly rural and densely populated

Economic and Environmental Challenges • Poverty is the greatest challenge • Poor sanitation, disease, and poor nutrition cause major health problems • Deforestation is a serious problem in Nepal • Problems between Pakistan and India over Kashmir • Sri Lanka faces an ethnic conflict between the Hindu Tamil minority and the Buddhist Sinhalese majority
