The European Library: Background • Origin in 2001: 2.5y feasibility study funded by EU • Intended to create operational service from start, so business plan was part of TELproject • TheEuropeanLibrary.org is live since March 2005 • Funded by the national libraries (NOT EU) • Development + maintenance by The European Library Office (Netherlands – 9 FTE)
