Why is this term important.

  3. ID EXAMPLE • Term to be ID’ed • NY METS – Explain the history and importance of the team. • Average ID example • The New York Mets are an American baseball team founded in the 20th century. It has been scientifically proven that they are the greatest baseball team ever. • Outstanding ID example • The NY Mets are an American baseball team founded in 1962. They are the greatest baseball team to ever exist because they have won two championships and Jose Reyes is the best SS.

  4. ID Yourself • Now construct an ID of your neighbor • The first sentence will contain the who/when/where/what • The second sentence will contain the “why”. Why is this term important.

  5. Historical Significance • Q: How do historians think/work? A: Historians analyze the social, economic, political importance of people, places, things, ideas. • Economic – system of exchanging goods/services • Politics – system of organizing people into groups • Social – the day to day life of people

  6. Historical Significance • What is the Economic, Political, and Social importance of the following phrase? • A person born in 2010 in Zimbabwe is expected to live 44.2 years. • A person born in 2010 in the USA is expected to live 78.4 years.

  7. Time Capsule • Imagine you are an historian in the year 3010. You have just found an historic document that describes American life in the 21st century. You are able to find a tremendous amount of information from this document. This document says: “The average American will spend 6 months of his/her life waiting at red lights” Work with your table neighbor to come up with a list of everything you can learn about American/Modern life from this statement. Aim for at least 10 different things.
